ICSI

ICSI is a technique where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg. It is an effortless and painless process that has often been successful, so much that it is today the world’s most favored fertilization method for all types of Infertility, even though it was developed for the treatment of male infertility.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is another type of assisted reproduction technique. The procedure can be used to complete IVF treatment to help couples to conceive. ICSI is an advanced form of IVF, & It is one of the most Successful Artificial Treatment process used in the case of Male Infertility.
The Success Rate of ICSI Treatment is generally around 85%. ICSI is a very effective method for the treatment of male infertility & instead of mixing the sperm and the eggs in the laboratory. It involves the selection of individual sperm, which is physically inserted into the eggs.

However, the main use of ICSI treatment is too significant for male infertility cases, where IVF & ICSI treatments involve specialized micromanipulation tools, equipment, and inverted microscopes, that enable embryologists to select and pick up the individual sperm isa specially designed ICSI needle.

ICSI PROCESS

The procedures are done by the Best ICSI Doctors . ICSI is performed as part of your IVF procedure. It is a procedure that involves taking a single mobility sperm and directly injecting the sperm into the egg. If fertilization occurs the embryo matures properly, and a doctor can transfer it into your uterus.
ICSI treatment differs from conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF). The process involves inserting a single sperm into a mature egg, which is then placed in a woman’s uterus after fertilization.
It requires the IVF process to directly manipulate the sperm & egg. A Female partner takes drugs to stimulate her ovaries so that several eggs can be collected.

  • Each egg is injected with a sperm cell to ensure that several embryos are available for transfer and storage.
  • Each sperm cell is picked up in a tiny needle (several times smaller than a human hair), before sperm-cell injection.
  • The needle is later carefully advanced through the outer shell of the egg and the egg membrane and following this, the sperm is injected into the inner part (cytoplasm) of the egg.

The whole process is visualized through very high magnification microscopes. The result is that there is normal fertilization in about 75-85% of eggs injected with sperm.
The 2nd stage of the ICSI process involves:

  • The mature egg is held with a specialized holding pipette.
  • Delicate, sharp, and hollow needlesare used to immobilize and pick up a single sperm.
  • Needle is carefully inserted through the shell of the egg and into the center (cytoplasm) of the egg.
  • Sperm is injected into the cytoplasm and the needle is removed.
  • Eggs are checked the next morning for evidence of normal fertilization.

ICSI-IVF is typically used in cases of severe Male Infertility, including:

  • Very low sperm count (also known as oligospermia)
  • Abnormally shaped sperm (also known as teratozoospermia)
  • Poor sperm movement (also known as asthenozoospermia)

FOR WHOM IS ICSI IDEAL?

ICSI is ideal for those couples:

  • Where the male partner has a very low sperm count, or very few swimming sperm, or produces few good-quality sperm.
  • Where the male partner has had an irreversible vasectomy or has no sperm in his semen due to missing tubes or blockages in his reproductive organs.
  • Previous IVF Cycle had few or no fertilized eggs
  • Frozen sperm is being used
  • Frozen oocytes are being used
  • PGD is being done
  • IVM (in vitro maturation) is being used

The ICSI is that the Sperm does not have to travel to the egg or penetrate the outer layers of the egg
