IUI

IUI is also known as Donor Insemination, alternative insemination, or artificial insemination, it works by putting sperm cells directly into your uterus to help the sperm get closer to your egg, near to or during the ovulation period. This makes it easier to fertilize your egg as it cuts down on the time and distance sperm has to travel to fertilize the egg in the otherwise normal procedure.

WHO CAN OPT FOR IUI TREATMENT?

IUI treatment in Jharkhand may be recommended for any of the following situations:

  • Male infertility
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Extreme pain during sexual intercourse
  • Unsuccessful treatment with fertility drugs
  • If a sperm donor is used
  • If cervical mucus is hostile

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR IUI TREATMENT?

  • The procedure for IUI Treatment is pretty simple. The woman must come to our center.
  • The male partner must also be present for providing the sperm.
  • In cases where the male partner is not available for sperm production, the frozen sperm can be inseminated into the female. The semen is collected from the male partner through masturbation.
  • If the sperms are being donated by a sperm donor, then the frozen sperms or the sperms directly from the donor can be inseminated

  • The semen is inserted into the uterus through the “washing” process
  • A small, thin tube called a “catheter” &it’s introduced into the cervix through which the specially washed semen is inserted
  • Once the semen is transferred, the catheter is removed and the process is complete Minor cramping can be felt during the insertion of the catheter, but it soon goes away.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE DONE BEFORE THE IUI TREATMENT?

While the woman is ovulating, blood tests are done and the cycle date is monitored to find the fertile window or the ovulation period.
Tests are done to ensure that the female partner is not pregnant or suffering from any kind of ovarian cysts. If everything comes out clear, then the date for IUI treatment close to the ovulation period is given & the treatment is done that day.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE POST-TREATMENT?

Progesterone may be prescribed after the treatment. This is done through a vaginal repository. After a week, tests are done to check the progesterone, estrogen, and maybe HCG levels.
After 10-14 days, pregnancy tests are done to check if the patient is pregnant or not.
